Some Important FAQ's

Common Frequently Asked Questions

A: A mechanical seal is a device used in rotating equipment such as pumps, mixers, or compressors, with the purpose of preventing leakage of the pumped fluid between the rotating shaft and the equipment housing. It acts as a barrier or "plug" that maintains the necessary vacuum or pressure within the system, allowing it to operate correctly without fluid loss.

A: Pump selection is primarily based on the operating point, which includes two essential parameters: the required flow rate, typically measured in gallons per minute (GPM), and the total discharge head or pressure (TDH or PSI). From there, other operating conditions are considered, such as the type of fluid, its temperature, viscosity, chemical and physical properties, as well as system details like pipe diameters, restriction points, and the user’s energy capacity. All of these factors directly influence the final selection of the most suitable equipment for the specific application.

A: A delay in the delivery of a product can be due to several factors. First, as distributors and not manufacturers, we depend directly on the lead times provided by our suppliers. These times can be affected by delays in the manufacturing chain, inventory issues, high demand, or special fabrication if the product is a unique or uncommon model. Additionally, many pieces of equipment in the local market are discontinued or obsolete, which can make it difficult to obtain replacement parts or may require custom manufacturing based on incomplete information. Another factor is logistics: being located on an island, shipping times may vary depending on whether the product arrives by air or sea. Lastly, the aftermath of COVID-19 continues to impact the global availability of personnel and supplies, contributing to potential delays.

A: Inventory availability may vary, so we recommend contacting us directly to verify real-time stock levels. While we do maintain stock of general-use products, such as pumps for potable water, wastewater, and sanitary applications, several factors affect our ability to keep a large and consistent inventory. Among these factors are the wide variety of models in the local market (a result of globalization and shifting demographics in rotating equipment) as well as economic and tax-related issues, such as the high inventory taxes in Puerto Rico. These conditions limit the ability of local companies to invest in large-scale inventory. As a result, even with significant efforts to improve availability, inventory is maintained at strategic and selective levels.

A: a. Yes, at PSD Corp we repair all types and brands of centrifugal pumps available on the market. We also have a specialized division for the service and repair of mechanical seals. However, our approach goes beyond one-time repairs—we also evaluate and optimize pumping systems to ensure maximum efficiency and long-term value for our clients. Every case is unique, so it must be reviewed and discussed before proceeding with an appropriate solution.

A: Yes, at PSD we offer maintenance services tailored to the specific needs of each client. We have active contracts with major clients and provide technical support with a high sense of urgency, total honesty, and a focus on long-term solutions. It's important to note that these services must be arranged in advance, either through ongoing maintenance contracts or scheduled one-time interventions.

A: PSD is a multidisciplinary company dedicated to providing comprehensive fluid handling solutions across all stages. We specialize in the sales, repair, consulting, and technical service of rotating equipment such as pumps, mechanical seals, support systems, mixers, gearboxes, heat exchangers, sanitary valves, and other related accessories. We represent multiple product lines and well-known brands, allowing us to adapt to each client’s specific needs and deliver efficient, high-value technical solutions.
